GET THE PICTURE - Sac Actun Caves

During 2018, a team of archeologists led by Dr. Guillermo de Anda, sponsored by Mexico's National Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH) discovered 200 archaeological sites along with ice age animal skeletons within the 215 mile (so far) Sac Actun (cenote) cave system in the Mexican state of Quintana Roo along the Yucatan.  With an entrance near the beach temple of Tulum, roughly 30 miles to Isla Cozumel.  One of my favorite sites in Mexico.

I owned a condo in Cancun for a time and my heart still belongs in the region.  I love this research, which provides further evidence to the premise that the Mayan calendar and Polpul Vuh myths of the region could be older than 10,000 years.  Evidence of this civilization lay under the Caribbean Ocean and within cenotes.
